from page 236 of DEVIL MAKE A THIRD:
He (Buck Bannon) watched silently as Jeff turned away, then swung back to the Reverend Huff.
"Two weeks ago," he said slowly, "the city council passed an ordinance instructing the mayor to set licenses as he sees fit for street fairs, peddlers, traveling shows, and tent revivals.'" He stopped and rubbed his chin with the back of his hand, watching the preacher. "You didn't pay any license at all, and you've preached a week."
The Reverend Huff's face whitened.
"No license was set," he said stiffly.
"There is now," Buck said, the flipped his hand out. "Just two thousand dollars."
