This is what I mean when I say," My Daddy and Joseph Heller, author of CATCH-22, served in the same unit during WWII." :

During WWII, my father, William EARL Register, served overseas in North Africa and  the Mediterranean area as a sergeant in the 12th Air Force, 57th Bombardment Wing. Joseph Heller, author of Catch-22, also served in the 57th Bombardment Wing so when I read CATCH-22 for the first time in college, I knew it was about my Daddy's unit. Now Heller and my Daddy were in different bombardment groups within the 4 bombardment groups which made up the 57th.
