The annotated THE STREETS OF DAUPHIN ISLAND blog entry is now one third finished with 39 annotations completed. Unfortunately, I have found two major mistakes made by "THE FOUNDING FATHERS" of Dauphin Island. The name FORT GAINES PLACE is attributed to "General George S. Gaines." George S. Gaines was NEVER a general and Ft. Gaines is not named for him. It is named for his brother, General Edmund Pendleton Gaines. The other mistake is a little more serious. GENERAL LEDBETTER PLACE is misspelled. It should read GENERAL LEADBETTER PLACE because it was named after General Danville Leadbetter.
