The accompanying link is a powerful window into Dauphin Island's past because it contains the entire Library of Congress file for the pilot schooner ALABAMA which served the Mobile Bay Bar Pilots from 1925 until 1966. The AMAZING thing about all this is that THIS SCHOONER STILL SAILS out of Martha's Vineyard in 2015. This link contains 39 photos, 13 of which are of the schooner on duty in Mobile Bay in the 1930s. It also PDF files of historical text and 12 measured drawings. Of special interest is photo #27 which includes the ALABAMA's tender, ANNIE RUTH, a fifty footer which burned on April 18, 1941 with no lives lost. http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/ma1326/
