1869: Buck Baker is born. He grows up on his parents BAKER'S DOZEN FARM north of Headland on Sandy Creek near Tolbert Church.



1873: Buck's  Daddy, Joe Baker, Sr., farmed, ran a general store, furnished farmers and had a post office called Bakerville. The community was also called "BAKER" or "BAKERS". (from the February 7, 1873 Henry County Register)

1887: Dan Baker claimed to have moved to Dothan in 1887. He would have been only 8 years old. Baker Banking and Trust was not organized as a national bank until 1905 or 1906.

1890: Joe Baker, Sr. is already lending money in Dothan (from the September 18, 1890 EUFAULA DAILY TIMES)

(July 28, 1898 COLUMBIA BREEZE) B.F. Reid, later hired as Dothan City Attorney, sued Buck Baker on behalf of Ida Clark.

(November 27, 1898 MONTGOMERY ADVERTISER) Buck Baker marries Ida Clark. All future statements that he was a lifelong bachelor are untrue.


from the January 19, 1900 Montgomery Advertiser. Joe Baker, Sr.'s trip to New York City is used to describe Governor Johnston's first days in the Senate if for some reason he was elected over Senator Morgan. The canal being discussed is the Panama Canal.
