About 1887, the city changed the name of South Margin Street (15th St.) to CRESCENT STREET and the name of East Margin Street (Queen City Ave.) to QUEEN CITY STREET. This was to promote the new railroad consolidation named the QUEEN & CRESCENT ROUTE which streamlined rail traffic between Cincinnati to New Orleans and ran through Tuscaloosa.
