Grade "B" ~ Robert Register's September 22, 1967 assignment for 3rd Period Senior English, Miss Mary Willie Jones, Instructor @ DOTHAN HIGH SCHOOL:
ADVANTAGES OF BEING A BOY
As I see and listen to people each day, I can clearly see that boys have and spend more money, have fewer problems dating, have less to worry about and definitely have more freedom. To begin with, money is one of a boy's greatest advantages because while he is a teenager, he usually finds more jobs that require labor rather than skill. This usually leaves the girl out because she surely cannot do hard labor. While a boy spends the money on the date, he finds his haircuts cost less and he can be neat rather than being fashionable. Since he has more money and spends comparatively little of it, a boy finds his monetary problems can be far less than the girl's.
While money puts a boy at an advantage, his dating is far less complicated that a girl's. If a girl finds she cannot get a date, there is little for her to do. But if a boy finds the girls he asks do not want to go out with him, he can always branch out to surrounding communities. I must admit that a good looking girl with personality has little trouble with dates but the typical girl has problems. For a boy, it is nothing to go to a public place without a date or a group of friends. Some girls would never be seen alone. The boy, no matter who his is, always has the advantage in dating because he is the asker and not the worrier by the telephone.
If a boy can have money and few dating problems, then he will surely have less to worry about. Boys take things in their stride. Bad grades do not make them sit and cry. But if they are good students, they will make a conscious effort to improve their grades. When a boy has problems, it is fairly easy for him to take off and try to forget them. This is harder for a girl because of her sheltered life. Because of his advantages, a boy earns another advantage: less to worry about.
Finally, a boy finds himself with much more freedom than a girl. This is easy to see since a boy finds his parents letting him do things his older sister was never allowed to do when she was his age. He almost always has an hour to spare after he takes his date home and his parents often trust him with his car on a weekend trip to visit friends. It is usually true that if a boy earns the trust of his parents, he can do almost anything he wants, that is in reason, by the time he is seventeen. This is the last and most important of a boy's advantages: his freedom.
