In his HISTORY OF ALABAMA published in 1851, Albert James Pickett mistakenly conflated the kidnapping of Mrs. Crawley on the Duck River in 1812 with the "Mound City Massacre" on the Ohio River in 1813. ( "The
Little Warrior, in returning, by way of the mouth of the Ohio,
attacked seven families, living near each other, and murdered them
in the most cruel manner. They dragged Mrs. Crawley from the bodies
of her bleeding children, and brought her, a prisoner, to the Tuscaloosa
Falls.") This mistake has been passed down to us to the present-day by "professional" historians. My latest project is to examine this error and to expose the indifference, incompetence and negligence required to PERPETUATE such a mistake for over 150 years.
