BREAKING NEWS!!!! BIG CHIEF HAS DECLARED A HIATUS IN THE ANNOTATION OF DAUPHIN ISLAND STREET NAMES! Have no fear... THE 2016 DAUPHIN ISLAND ARMCHAIR ADMIRAL CONTEST IS STILL "ON LIKE A CHICKEN BONE", however, only 60 of Dauphin Island's streets have been annotated on the blog. This minor PAUSE IN THE PROCESS has been brought on by NEW INFORMATION we have received concerning Dauphin Island's role in THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION  so the 1780-1781 SPANISH AND CONTINENTAL NAVIES' CONQUEST OF BRITISH WEST FLORIDA will now occupy BIG CHIEF'S ATTENTION. Continue to study the significance of Dauphin Island Street Names in preparation for THE BIG CONTEST by using the DAUPHIN ISLAND: AMERICA'S MOST HISTORIC GULF ISLAND blog, Mr. S. Blake McNeely's black book and the Chamber's street map because THE FIRST of the "yet to be announced" DAUPHIN ISLAND TRIVIA CONTESTS will DEFINITELY be held on the island after January 1. We have learned so much from the annotation of the first 60 street names including important biographical information concerning the many now deceased Alabamians who developed Dauphin Island in the 1950s. We have also corrected some major historical inaccuracies contained in the COMMITTEE ON NOMENCLATURE'S description of each street name's significance to Dauphin Island. We are approaching 4000 blog views so folks are definitely checking out this new information and that number is sure to rise when more people become aware of the early American Navy's role in the conquest of British West Florida during the 1780 SIEGE OF MOBILE.
