So I've been working on a blog called THE DEVIL MAKE A THIRD PRIMER which is a literary analysis and criticism of Dougie Bailey's DEVIL MAKE A THIRD. https://privatepropertynotrespass.blogspot.com/

 I haven't made too much progress lately simply because nobody seems to be interested. That's sad to me because 2023 makes 75 years since the novel was published.

So I'm on my evening hike last night and I thought, "I wonder if I could get Mike to take DEVIL MAKE A THIRD as his creative inspiration?!!!!"

So I go, "I bet his Daddy and Dougie has some kind of association." So I searched newspapers.com for Dan and Dougie in Dothan and got a couple of results. 

In this March 16, 1952 Dothan Eagle clipping, Dougie is in the NIGHT CLUB scene and Dan is in the chorus of the SOUTH AMERICAN scene and in the quartet.

In this April 24, 1938 Dothan Eagle clipping, Dougie's wife is mentioned in a bridge party article that's next to a DHS Seniors '38 article where Dan is mentioned as singing in a quartet @ the Houston Hotel with Norton Mullins which he did once more on the stage of the Martin Theatre in 1952! So I saw your Dad was in the DHS Class of '38 and I happen to have a '37 Gargoyle because my Dad was in the DHS Class of '39! BOOM!

Coach Hewes, Mr. Walker and Flossie were still at DHS when I was there. Flossie worked as a substitute teacher.

Dan Baker, President of the Dothan Board of Education, was the model for Jeff Bannon in DEVIL MAKE A THIRD. His brother Buck was the model for the main character Buck Bannon and his other brother, "Dug" (C.F.) was the model for Hearn Bannon who is one of the most despicable characters in the book. This blog post identifies the Dothan people who served as models for Dougie's characters.
