Spanish half real, 1 real, and
2 reales silver coins (known as "cobs") have
been recovered in significant numbers from all
three sites (Figure 1 A-B). At Old Mobile, 70
cobs have been found to date, an average of
more than 7 per excavated structure; 6 were
recovered from the stockade site on Dauphin
Island; and 19 are included in the Port Dauphin
Village assemblage, almost all of half real
denomination.
