200 YEARS AGO TODAY, Sunday, March 12, 1815, was the last day the people of New Orleans had to suffer under martial law which had been declared by General Andrew Jackson on December 16, 1814. The next day, Jackson received confirmation that the U.S. had ratified the Treaty of Ghent and restored civilian authority. Jackson also released all of his "political prisoners" which include a Louisiana legislator and the U.S. Federal Judge for the District of New Orleans. http://mobilebicentennial.blogspot.com
