Got this image off of an incredible Library of Congress site filled with images of 1861. William Waud drew these Charleston slaves mounting a cannon in Ft. Sumter in March of 1861. I'm sure the slaves were rented from the citizens of Charleston by the Federal government. This was before the Yankees KNEW that "THE REASON FOR THE WAR" was TO FREE THE SLAVES.

has had an incredible 24 hrs. I got my book signed by both Randall & Chuck. (Since I got Justo, J.R., The Ox & Goldsboro to sign last summer @ the mural dedication, my book starting to look good). Chuck & Randall sold out the Bama & nobody in the house was under 50! It was a Class of '67 Reunion slash Chukker Reunion! Got more compliments than I ever have in my whole life!

had the privilege of hangin' out this morning with two investigators analyzing the origin & cause of a fire. The equipment they brought from ATL was impressive. One cat was a former Battalion Chief w/ Metro ATL Fire Dept. with a degree in Fire Science. The other guy had his degree in Electrical Engineering. I first met Ken Kesey in '98 or '99 through his website intrepidtrips.com. He wanted to take his bus to Cuba so we corresponded about the possibilities. Our politics couldn't have been more different yet we became friends. I'll never forget the day he died on Saturday, November 10, 2001. I had a terrible day @ work that day & then got caught up in the game day traffic trying to get home. I turned on the tube and a crawl on the TV screen informed me that Ken Kesey was dead. lost his first Facebook friend. Andre Scott was buried in Tuscaloosa today. He was my Biology student @ Central W. in '85. Even though I haven't seen him in over 24 years, I shed a tear tonight as I viewed his favorite things he had posted on the Internet. He was a conductor on an ACL train called The Judy that went to Bainbridge & Chattahoochee. Seeing Grandpa in the casket was the only time I ever saw my Daddy cry but after that was over Daddy took me on the Insider's Tour of Johnson Funeral Home on North Foster. Talkin' 'bout HALLOWEEN! A Yankee invasion of South Alabama in December of 1862 seems like a pretty important subject to me. found an article tonight containing images of letters mailed with Confederate postage to Mail Route 1538 which was between Marianna and Campbellton. According to documents in the National Archives, my G-Great Grandfather, John Young Register of Geneva, had the contract to deliver the mail along this route in 1861. This was the road that the Yankees took before the Battle of Marianna.

really appreciates his boss, Lee Pake, visiting his G-Great Uncle William's grave in Chicago today. Uncle William Duncan Register from Geneva was my Grandpa Will Young Register's oldest uncle and he died on 7-13-1862 at age 19 while he being held as a P.O.W. in Chicago. He is buried along with over 6000 other Confederate P.O.W.s in a mass grave in Oak Woods Cemetery which remained unmarked for 35 years after the Civil War.
